New Delhi: BJP leader CR Kesavan on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on the Congress, criticising a letter written by party president Mallikarjun Kharge and Lok Sabha LoP Rahul Gandhi to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He alleged that the Congress was “betraying Bharat by blatantly prioritising Pakistan’s agenda ahead of India’s national interest.”

The letter, sent in the aftermath of the deadly April 22 terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, urged the Prime Minister to convene a special session of both Houses of Parliament in solidarity with the victims. “The terrorist attack in Pahalgam has outraged every Indian. At this critical time, India must show that we will always stand together against terrorism,” Rahul Gandhi had stated in the letter.

However, reacting sharply, Kesavan questioned the intent and timing of the letter. Speaking to a news agency, he said, “Rahul Gandhi and Kharge ji’s letter to PM Modi lacks credibility and integrity. The way in which the opposition and particularly Congress leaders have been betraying Bharat by blatantly prioritising Pakistan’s agenda ahead of India’s national interest… One wonders whether INC now stands for Indian National Congress or Indian Nemesis Congress.”

Kesavan accused Congress leaders of “making atrocious statements” and “deliberately peddling perilous pro-Pakistan propaganda,” adding further fuel to the already heated political atmosphere following the attack.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, in his communication with the Prime Minister, had written: “Congress President Shri Mallikarjun Kharge has addressed a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to convene a special session of both Houses of Parliament in solidarity with the victims of the heinous Pahalgam attack.”
