Russian President Vladimir Putin has reiterated Moscow’s commitment to strengthening its long-standing partnership with India, describing the relationship as one rooted in trust, shared interests and expanding cooperation across key sectors.
Speaking during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Putin emphasized that ties between the two countries continue to evolve beyond traditional diplomacy, covering areas such as defence production, technological innovation, energy security and trade.
India’s Talent Pool Wins Praise
During his remarks, Putin highlighted India’s growing reputation as a global hub for skilled professionals and technological expertise. He noted that Indian engineers, software developers and innovators have made significant contributions across international industries, enhancing India’s standing in the global economy.
According to the Russian leader, India’s highly educated workforce presents vast opportunities for future collaboration in advanced technologies and research-driven sectors.
Focus on Economic and Energy Cooperation
Putin also stressed the importance of economic cooperation between the two nations, particularly during periods of global market uncertainty.
He said Russian companies have continued working closely with Indian partners to maintain stable commercial relations and ensure reliable supplies in key sectors. The Russian President indicated that economic engagement remains a central pillar of the broader strategic partnership.
Defence Collaboration Continues to Expand
A major portion of Putin’s remarks focused on defence cooperation, an area that has historically formed the backbone of India-Russia relations.
He pointed to the jointly developed BrahMos missile programme as an example of how the two countries have moved beyond conventional defence trade into collaborative research, development and manufacturing. The project, he said, reflects a deeper level of technological partnership between New Delhi and Moscow.
Putin also acknowledged the decades-long military relationship that has seen India acquire a range of Russian-origin defence platforms over the years.
India’s Independent Foreign Policy Recognised
The Russian President praised India for pursuing policies guided by its own national priorities and interests. He described the country as a sovereign power that makes strategic decisions independently while maintaining constructive relationships with multiple global partners.
Putin noted that India’s approach to international affairs has helped it emerge as an influential player on the world stage while safeguarding its economic and security interests.
Russia Signals Long-Term Commitment
Reaffirming Moscow’s position, Putin stated that Russia values its partnership with India and intends to continue expanding cooperation regardless of changing geopolitical circumstances.
He stressed that bilateral engagement is driven by long-term strategic goals and mutual benefit rather than short-term global developments.
Trust Remains Foundation of Partnership
Concluding his address, Putin said the strength of India-Russia relations lies in the confidence both nations have built over decades of cooperation. From defence and energy to innovation and commerce, he said, the partnership continues to demonstrate resilience and remains an important component of both countries’ foreign policy priorities.
