Mumbai: Punjab Police have booked popular rapper Badshah following a complaint claiming that his latest song, “Velvet Flow,” has hurt the religious sentiments of the Christian community. The complaint was lodged by Emanual Masih, a representative of the Global Christian Action Committee, leading to the registration of a case in Batala.
Masih alleges that Badshah’s song includes disrespectful references to religious terms like ‘church’ and ‘Bible.’ According to Station House Officer Gurvinder Singh, an FIR was filed at the Qila Lal Singh police station on Tuesday, based on the complaint that the lyrics of the song were offensive to the Christian community. The case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, with charges related to hurting religious sentiments.
The controversy has sparked protests, with demonstrators gathering in Batala, located in Punjab’s Gurdaspur district, on Tuesday to express their discontent over the alleged inappropriate use of religious symbols in the song.
Badshah released “Velvet Flow” on April 11, 2025, and the official music video, uploaded to his YouTube channel, has already accumulated over eight lakh views. The rapper has yet to respond publicly to the allegations.
