Priyanka Gandhi Defends Rahul Gandhi Amid SC Remarks: “It’s a Misinterpretation”

New Delhi: Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday came to the defence of Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, after the Supreme Court pulled him up over his remarks regarding the December 9, 2022 clash between Indian and Chinese troops in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tawang sector.

Addressing the media, Priyanka said, “They do not decide who a true Indian is. It is the job of the Opposition Leader, it is his duty to ask questions to challenge the Government. My brother would never say anything against the Army. He holds the Army in the highest respect. So, it is a misinterpretation.”

Her statement comes amid growing debate over the Opposition’s role in national security discourse, following the Supreme Court’s observations questioning Rahul Gandhi’s remarks on India-China border tensions.

The clash in Tawang in December 2022 had reignited political exchanges between the ruling BJP and the Congress, with Rahul Gandhi previously accusing the government of hiding facts related to Chinese aggression. The BJP had criticized his comments as “demoralizing” to the armed forces, while the Congress maintained that questioning the government does not equate to questioning the Army.
