The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA Rohit Pawar, grandnephew of party supremo Sharad Pawar, in connection with the Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank (MSCB) scam. According to sources, Rohit has been asked to appear before ED officials in south Mumbai on January 24.

The ED’s investigation focuses on Rohit Pawar’s company, Baramati Agro, which is allegedly linked to the MSCB scam. Raids were conducted earlier this month on premises associated with Baramati Agro, Kannad Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana in Aurangabad, and offices of Baramati Agro in Pimpali in Baramati, among others.

The money laundering inquiry revolves around accusations of cash diversion and the transfer of earnest payments from Baramati Agro to Hitech Engineering. Both companies jointly bid for the acquisition of Kannad Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana, a cooperative sugar factory in Maharashtra.

In response to the summons, NCP spokesperson Clyde Crasto has vehemently denied any involvement, characterizing it as political vendetta. Crasto argues that the consistent pressure on Rohit Pawar through central agencies is an attempt to silence a voice challenging the BJP.

Crasto contends that if Rohit Pawar is being summoned, then other leaders accused by BJP before joining the party should face similar scrutiny. He emphasizes the need for central agencies to hold accountable leaders, even those who have switched allegiances to the BJP, suggesting that the cleansing process should be comprehensive.

“The constant pressure on Rohit Pawar through central agencies is nothing but political vendetta to muzzle the voice of a man who is showing the BJP their dirty side.

If Rohit Pawar is summoned by a central agency, then many others who were accused by BJP leaders before they joined them should also be summoned.

The central agencies should also bring to justice those tainted and dirty leaders who are now supposedly cleaned in the BJP washing machine.

Rohit Pawar is a bold voice and BJP will not be able to keep him quiet”, said NCP leader Crasto.

Rohit Pawar, known for his bold voice, is expected to face the pressure head-on. The NCP alleges that the summons is a political move to stifle dissent and tarnish the image of leaders critical of the BJP. As the situation unfolds, it underscores the complex interplay between politics and law enforcement, with both sides asserting their narratives in the ongoing saga of the MSCB scam.
