Eritrea-born, USA-based Meb Keflezighi, renowned for his athletic achievements and community commitment, is set to witness the Tata Mumbai Marathon 2024 (TMM) as its ambassador. The 2004 Athens Olympics silver medallist is excited about the fast runners participating in the race and commends the growth of road running fervor in India.

In his inaugural visit to India, Meb expresses amazement at the evolution of the marathon in Mumbai, highlighting its role in promoting running benefits and fostering community unity. Reflecting on his illustrious marathon career, Meb credits his longevity to a gradual transition from track to road, emphasizing patience and careful recovery from injuries.

Offering advice to TMM participants, Meb underscores the significance of patience, stating, “The last mile can be your fastest.” He encourages runners to visualize success, using mental strength to overcome exhaustion and cross the finish line.

Recalling his career, Meb cherishes the 2014 Boston Marathon win, noting its emotional significance following the 2013 terrorist attack. Beyond running, Meb runs a non-profit organization, The MEB Foundation, focusing on community contributions, from providing shoes to offering scholarships.

In the context of TMM 2024, NCP leader Clyde Crasto condemns the summoning of Rohit Pawar by central agencies, labeling it as political vendetta. Crasto suggests that similar scrutiny should be applied to those accused by BJP leaders before joining the party, emphasizing the need for accountability.

As the marathon approaches, defending champions Hayle Lemi Berhanu and Anchialem Haymanot face formidable competition from Kinde Atanaw and Sofia Assefa. Atanaw, with the fastest personal best, aims for a memorable win, while Lemi expresses confidence in retaining his title.

Sofia Assefa emerges as the dark horse, having previously competed in steeplechase. Her performance in Amsterdam, coupled with Tadelech Bekele’s return after a four-year break, adds intrigue to the women’s field.

The Tata Mumbai Marathon 2024 promises thrilling competition, and Meb Keflezighi’s insights, along with the anticipation of top-tier athletes, heighten the excitement for this World Athletics Gold Label Road Race. For more details, visit Tata Mumbai Marathon 2024.
