The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA Rohit Pawar, who is the grandnephew of party supremo Sharad Pawar, in connection with the Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank (MSCB) scam. According to sources within the central agency, Rohit has been asked to appear before ED officials in south Mumbai on January 24.

The ED officials intend to question Rohit Pawar regarding the affairs of his company, Baramati Agro, which is allegedly linked to the MSCB scam. Earlier this month, the agency conducted raids on premises associated with Baramati Agro. Searches were also carried out on the premises of Kannad Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana in Aurangabad, two offices of Baramati Agro in Pimpali in Baramati, the premises of Hitech Engineering Corporation, and locations belonging to individuals associated with Hitech Engineering.

The money laundering investigation into Rohit Pawar’s firm is centered on allegations of “diversion” of cash and the purported transfer of earnest payments by Baramati Agro to Hitech Engineering. Both companies bid jointly to acquire a distressed cooperative sugar factory, Kannad Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana (SSK), based in Maharashtra.

Following the ED’s raids, Rohit Pawar took to social media to express his stance. In a message, he reiterated his commitment to Maharashtra Dharma and asserted his readiness to pay any required price to preserve it. He emphasized the historical struggles of the land of Maharashtra, framing his response in the context of the state’s enduring history.

As the investigation unfolds, the summoning of Rohit Pawar by the ED adds another layer to the MSCB scam, a case that has already garnered attention due to its political ramifications. The ED’s inquiry seeks to delve into the financial intricacies and alleged irregularities involving Rohit Pawar’s company, contributing to the broader scrutiny of financial transactions within the cooperative sector in Maharashtra.
