Bhiwandi: A 48-year-police constable from Bhiwandi Bhoiwada police station died due to coronavirus infection on Tuesday while the Thane Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar was discharged on Wednesday after defeating the Coronavirus. Phansalkar was admitted on September 6 after he was tested positive.
Bhagwan Wagand, (48), a police constable posted at Bhoiwada police station and was admitted to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGM) on Tuesday when he was having trouble in taking breath. His family member was taken to IGM hospital where he died during the treatment.
Wagand resided at Temghar area of Bhiwandi. He is survived by his wife, two daughters and one son. He had given the police service into Bhoiwada police station for about five years. He has tested corona positive on Tuesday.
Senior Police Inspector, K A Karpe, Bhoiwada Police Station said, “He got medical leave for the last ten days following a medical test of which found he had jaundice. On Tuesday, he was having trouble breathing, later he was admitted to IGM hospital and he tested corona positive and he died during the treatment”.
He was a very sincere police constable and made the disciplines in the police station and good work sense in the investigation, Karpe added.
A total of 22 police personnel including four officers had tested positive for coronavirus and one died in the Bhoiwada police station, informed by a police officer of Bhoiwada police station.
“In Bhiwandi Zone 2 of Thane commissionerate, so far (September 15), a total of 196 police personnel had tested positive in which 36 police officers. Out of 196, 183 including 35 police officers were discharged while 13 including one police officer are under treatment in various hospitals. A total of 127 including 28 police officers are back on duty at their respective police stations”, Said DCP Zone 2, of Thane commissionerate, Rajkumar Shinde.
Bhiwandi-Nizampur City Municipal Corporation (BNCMC) PRO, Milind Palsule said “So far, a total of number corona positive cases 4584 have been recorded. Out of the total 4584 positive cases, 255 are active and currently, under the treatment, 4034 have discharged while 295 died due to infection”. –By Narendra Gupta
