Prime Minister to Visit UAE, Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and Italy
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday departed for Abu Dhabi to begin a major five-nation diplomatic tour aimed at expanding India’s strategic and economic engagement with key partners in Europe and the Gulf region.
The visit, scheduled from May 15 to May 20, will cover the United Arab Emirates, Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and Italy, with discussions expected around trade, investment, technology, clean energy, innovation and regional cooperation.
Government officials said the tour reflects India’s increasing focus on strengthening economic partnerships and enhancing its role in global supply chains and green growth initiatives.
UAE Visit to Focus on Energy and Investment Cooperation
PM Modi will begin the tour in Abu Dhabi, where he is scheduled to hold talks with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, discussions during the UAE visit are expected to centre on energy cooperation, trade expansion, investment opportunities and regional developments of mutual interest.
India and the UAE have significantly expanded bilateral ties in recent years, especially in sectors such as infrastructure, renewable energy, fintech and logistics.
Exporters Expect Boost in India-Europe Trade Relations
The Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) described the Prime Minister’s visit as crucial for India’s growing commercial engagement with Europe and the Gulf nations.
FIEO President SC Ralhan said the high-level meetings during the tour are expected to create fresh opportunities for Indian exporters across multiple industries.
“The Prime Minister’s high-level engagements with the leadership of the UAE and major European nations underline India’s growing stature as a trusted economic partner and a key driver of global growth. The visit is expected to create substantial opportunities for Indian exporters across sectors, including engineering, clean energy, technology, pharmaceuticals, food processing, textiles, logistics and digital trade,” Ralhan said.
Industry bodies believe the visit could further strengthen trade partnerships at a time when India is actively seeking to diversify export markets and attract foreign investment.
Focus on Technology, Green Growth and Innovation
Officials indicated that the multi-country visit will also focus on collaboration in emerging sectors such as green hydrogen, digital innovation, artificial intelligence, clean technology and sustainable development.
India has been intensifying diplomatic outreach with European nations and Gulf countries as part of its broader strategy to deepen economic ties and secure long-term energy and technology partnerships.
