Labourer Injured After Strong Winds Lift Tin Shed During Storm
Police in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly have clarified the truth behind a viral video showing a man apparently being thrown high into the air during a powerful storm, stating that the footage was digitally manipulated to exaggerate the incident.
According to officials, the man seen in the clip has been identified as Nanhe Mian, a labourer from Babiyana village under the Bhamora police station area. He suffered injuries, including a fracture in his arm, after strong winds uprooted a tin structure while he was working.
Bareilly DSP Nitin Kumar said, “A video circulating on social media depicts an individual appearing to fly in the air. In this regard, it is hereby clarified that this video concerns Nanhe–son of Wahid Hasan–a resident of Babiyana village within the Bhamora police station jurisdiction.”
Police Say Video Was Altered Before Being Shared Online
Explaining the incident, the police said the labourer was standing near a pole connected to a tin shed when severe winds struck the area. The storm reportedly caused the tin sheet to detach and flip due to the force of the wind, pulling the man along with it.
“Yesterday, during a severe windstorm, a tin sheet attached to the individual’s house was dislodged. Due to the high velocity of the wind and the resulting transfer of momentum, the sheet flipped over in the opposite direction,” DSP Nitin Kumar said.
He added, “Since the individual in question was standing while leaning against the very pole supporting this tin sheet, his trajectory consequently appeared to follow the direction in which the sheet was blown away.”
The officer further claimed that the clip being circulated online was edited to make the visuals appear more dramatic. “Certain individuals have subsequently manipulated the footage–visually editing it for dramatic effect–and are now circulating it widely,” he said.
Labourer Recalls Terrifying Moment During Storm
Nanhe Mian, who is currently undergoing treatment, said the weather changed suddenly while he and others were working near the structure.
“I am a labourer. I was working when the storm struck. That’s when the structure began to lift into the air,” he told ANI.
Describing the incident, he said he and four others were trying to hold down the tin structure before the powerful winds swept him away.
“There were four other people with me. I told them, ‘I’ll hold this down; you tie it securely.’ We were holding onto that tin when I was swept away right along with it,” he said.
Nanhe further revealed that he landed nearly 80 feet away in a muddy maize field filled with water.
“My grip slipped, and I lost hold of it. I don’t know exactly what happened next, only Allah knows. I landed about 80 feet away,” he said.
Injured Worker Appeals for Government Assistance
The labourer said he was rescued by a local resident who carried him to safety and later helped him reach medical care.
“It was a maize field, and it was filled with water. I ended up embedded in the mud there. A man happened to be watching from nearby. He came running out of his house. He pulled me onto his shoulders. Then, he helped me sit on his motorcycle and took me away,” he recalled.
Doctors later confirmed that Nanhe suffered a fracture requiring medical treatment and a metal plate in his arm. He also claimed that he has not yet received any official assistance.
“So far, no one has come to visit me. I have young children to support. There is no one else in the family to earn a living. I am in distress. I will only be able to work again once my injuries have healed. I appeal to the government to provide whatever assistance it can to help me,” he said.
