“PM Modi Called, Assured Full Support”: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Flood Crisis

Guwahati: As floodwaters continue to wreak havoc across parts of Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally reached out to assess the situation and extend the Centre’s support.

“A short while ago, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called me to enquire about the current flood situation in Assam. I briefed him on how continuous rainfall in Assam and adjoining states has led to flooding and impacted many lives,” CM Sarma stated on social media.

The Chief Minister noted that the PM was concerned about the scale of the damage and was quick to reassure him of the Centre’s backing. “I also apprised him of the relief operation undertaken by the state government. The PM expressed concern and assured full support from the Central Government for our relief and rehabilitation efforts. Grateful for his guidance and unwavering support to the people of Assam,” Sarma added.

Assam has been experiencing heavy rainfall over the past several days, leading to overflowing rivers, waterlogged villages, and disrupted transport in many districts. The state government has deployed disaster response teams, set up relief camps, and expedited aid distribution to affected communities.
