New Delhi: A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed before the Supreme Court, urging a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the deaths of children in Madhya Pradesh after allegedly consuming contaminated cough syrup.

The PIL, filed by a practicing lawyer, demands a thorough investigation monitored by a retired Supreme Court judge to ensure impartiality and transparency. It calls for scrutiny of the entire lifecycle of the cough syrups, including their manufacture, regulation, testing, and distribution.

The move comes amid growing public outrage and concerns over lapses in drug safety standards after multiple children reportedly died in Madhya Pradesh due to consumption of the tainted syrup. Authorities are being urged to take swift and stringent action to prevent further tragedies and hold the manufacturers accountable.
