Islamabad: In a significant diplomatic development, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar announced that India and Pakistan have agreed to a ceasefire with immediate effect. The understanding, according to Dar, was directly worked out between the two countries, with military representatives taking the lead.

Dar tweeted: “Pakistan and India have agreed to a ceasefire with immediate effect…”

He went on to explain that the stoppage of firing and military action was coordinated through military channels. “The Pak DGMO initiated the call this afternoon after which discussions took place and understanding reached.” He further added, “There is no decision to hold talks on any other issue at any other place,” indicating that the ceasefire was the primary focus of the discussions.

Sources from news agencies confirmed that the ceasefire was agreed upon without any external mediation, pointing to a direct and immediate military-level agreement.

Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio took to Twitter to provide a contrasting account, emphasizing U.S. diplomatic involvement in the process. He tweeted: “Over the past 48 hours, Vice President JD Vance and I have engaged with senior Indian and Pakistani officials, including Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Shehbaz Sharif, External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir, and National Security Advisors Ajit Doval and Asim Malik. I am pleased to announce the Governments of India and Pakistan have agreed to an immediate ceasefire and to start talks on a broad set of issues at a neutral site.”

Rubio continued: “We commend Prime Ministers Modi and Sharif on their wisdom, prudence, and statesmanship in choosing the path of peace.”
