Sirsa: In a dramatic escalation of tensions between India and Pakistan, a Pakistan-launched Fatah-II missile, targeting Haryana’s Sirsa, was reportedly destroyed mid-air by Indian Defence Forces on Saturday, May 10. Witnesses in the region heard a loud explosion before seeing missile debris fall near a local church. A local resident stated, “My son saw this and told me that something was over us. We saw from our terrace that something was blasted with a loud explosion. In the morning, we saw that it had fallen near a church.”
The Fatah-II missile, with a range of 400 kilometers and the ability to strike targets with pinpoint accuracy, can carry a 365-kilo warhead and had the potential to strike high-value Indian military assets, including the S-400 missile systems.
In retaliation to the missile attack, Indian forces launched airstrikes on at least four Pakistani airbases in the early hours of Saturday. These strikes followed a series of attacks by Pakistan on 26 locations across India, further intensifying tensions along the Line of Control (LoC). Intermittent firing continues to be reported from multiple locations.
India also took action in the air with multiple drone sightings across Pakistani cities, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Sialkot. The Ministry of Defence stated, “Drones have been sighted at 26 locations along the International Border and LoC with Pakistan. These include suspected armed drones.” An armed drone attack in Ferozpur, India, led to injuries to a local family. The statement further assured that the injured had been given medical attention and security forces had sanitised the area.
Explosions were reported in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur, and in Rajouri, where houses were damaged. In Punjab, a drone-related explosion in Jalandhar damaged a house in Kanganiwal village. Local resident Surjeet Kaur recalled, “A red coloured flash came above our house and there was a huge explosion. We got scared. Everything was dark.”
The Indian armed forces have continued their high state of alert, actively countering aerial threats using advanced counter-drone systems, while Pakistan escalates its attacks.
