New Delhi: Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday highlighted the government’s efforts to support farmers through a significant hike in Minimum Support Prices (MSP). Speaking about the MSP determination process, he said, “The Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP) consults state governments and calculates production costs by including all related expenses. Based on that, a 50% profit margin is added to determine the MSP.”
Citing the rise in MSP for paddy, Chouhan stated, “The MSP for paddy was ₹1310 in 2013–14; it has now increased to ₹2369. This shows the government’s commitment to ensuring fair income for farmers.”
The minister’s remarks come amid ongoing debates over agricultural pricing and farmers’ welfare policies in Parliament.
