Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani has said nutrition has to be affordable and locally available to the needy people.
She said, over eight thousand 800 crore rupees have been transferred to the bank accounts of the pregnant women and lactating mothers under the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana.
The Minister was speaking at a function in New Delhi today on the start of POSHAN Maah at All India Institute of Ayurveda. She said, the centuries-old Indian tradition of holistic health has become a global way of life today. She said, Ayurveda market has touched one lakh crore rupees mark in the country.
Referring to a study, she said, the number of Anemia cases have come down in the country. She said, the Centre had launched POSHAN Abhiyan in 2018 to combat malnutrition. Since then, the month of September is observed as POSHAN Maah with a view to carrying out special dedicated activities ushering in behavioural change in the society.
POSHAN Abhiyaan had been launched to improve nutritional outcomes for children, adolescent girls, pregnant women and lactating mothers. Several activities related to nutrition awareness will be carried out across the country during the POSHAN Maah. As the Nation is celebrating Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the entire month has been subdivided into weekly themes. They include plantation activity as Poshan Vatika, Yoga and AYUSH for nutrition, distribution of Regional Nutrition Kit to Anganwadi beneficiaries of high burdened districts and identification of severe acute malnutrition children and distribution of nutritious food.
