Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi for delivering on his promise to hold elections in the Union Territory, while appealing for the restoration of statehood. Speaking at the inauguration of the Z-Morh tunnel in Sonamarg, Abdullah highlighted the smooth conduct of the elections and the enthusiasm of voters.

“Prime Minister, you fulfilled your promise of holding elections within four months of committing to it, and today, as chief minister, I am addressing this gathering. There were no complaints of rigging or misuse of power, and the elections reflected the people’s will,” Abdullah said.

The chief minister also reminded the audience of another promise made by PM Modi — the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood. “People keep asking me about this, and I remind them that the Prime Minister fulfilled his promise of elections. I believe he will soon fulfill this promise too, and Jammu and Kashmir will once again be a state of this country,” he added.
