Mumbai: NCP President Sharad Pawar on Tuesday brushed aside growing speculation about a possible political reunion with his estranged nephew and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, following their recent interactions. Pawar senior asserted that discussions with state government representatives on matters affecting people should not be viewed through a political lens.

“There is nothing wrong in talking to representatives of the state government on issues concerning people,” Pawar told reporters, downplaying suggestions of political rapprochement.

In the past two weeks, Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar have met three times, including a notable appearance together on Monday in Pune, where they jointly participated in a discussion on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in agriculture and the sugar industry.

Clarifying the nature of Monday’s meeting, the NCP supremo said, “It was a discussion on the use of artificial intelligence in sugar production,” firmly dismissing any political interpretations.

The series of meetings has set off a flurry of speculation in Maharashtra’s political circles, with many reading it as a sign of thawing relations between the uncle-nephew duo, who have been on opposing political sides since the Ajit Pawar-led faction split from the NCP and joined the BJP-Shiv Sena government in July 2023.

Pawar, however, maintained a cautious distance from any such claims, and when asked about the reported efforts to reconcile Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray and MNS chief Raj Thackeray, he said, “It is a family matter. I have no information.”
