A major security scare unfolded in Nagpur after a cache of explosives was recovered from a house located barely 2 km from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) headquarters. The discovery triggered panic and led to a high alert in the area.
Police officials said the materials were found at a residence near Dosar Bhavan Chowk on CA Road. The occupants, identified as the Lanjewar family, alerted authorities between 9:30 am and 9:45 am after noticing suspicious items in their garden.
Bomb Squad Rushes, Area Sealed
Acting quickly, local police along with the bomb disposal squad reached the spot and immediately cordoned off the area. A large-scale search operation was launched to ensure no additional explosive materials were present.
Officials confirmed the recovery of around 15 gelatin sticks, 58 detonators, connectors, and 15 live cartridges. The seized materials were later moved to a secure, undisclosed location for further forensic analysis.
Explosives May Have Been Stored for Weeks
Preliminary investigation suggests that the explosives may have been stored at the location for nearly one-and-a-half months. Forensic teams are now examining the materials to determine their origin and possible use.
Senior police officials, including Additional Commissioner of Police Naveenchandra Reddy, visited the site and reviewed the situation. Authorities have begun a detailed probe to find out how the explosives reached the area and whether there is a larger conspiracy involved.
Security Tightened Across Sensitive Locations
The proximity of the recovery site to the RSS headquarters, considered a highly sensitive location, has raised serious concerns. Security has been significantly increased in and around key establishments in the city.
The incident comes shortly after a grenade attack at a BJP office in Chandigarh, which had already put security agencies on alert nationwide. Police said the situation in Nagpur is currently under control, but vigilance remains high.
