Kathmandu: Nepalese Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli resigned on Tuesday amid intensifying ‘Gen Z’ protests across Kathmandu. His resignation came after protesters stormed his office shouting anti-government slogans and set fire to his private residence in Balkot, demanding accountability for Monday’s violent clashes.

The Nepal Army was called in to restore order as demonstrations continued for the second day. Protesters expressed relief and optimism following Oli’s resignation. One agitator told news agencies, “It is very good for our country that Nepal Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli has resigned. Now the youth will stand and give its contribution in developing the nation.”

The unrest began after the government imposed a ban on social media platforms, including WhatsApp, X, Facebook, and YouTube. The ban was later revoked following clashes that reportedly left over 20 people dead and around 300 injured.

Amid the ongoing agitation, reports suggest that PM Oli may leave Nepal for Dubai, with Himalaya Airlines reportedly on standby.
