Amit Shah, Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi Cast Votes as India Elects 15th Vice President in 2025

New Delhi: The 15th Vice Presidential election of India witnessed robust participation from senior political leaders on Tuesday, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi, and several other prominent MPs casting their votes. Polling began at 10 AM in Parliament, following the resignation of Jagdeep Dhankhar, with Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh overseeing proceedings in the absence of the Vice President.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, along with other NDA MPs, exercised their franchise. Former Prime Minister and JD(S) MP H.D. Deve Gowda, arrived in a wheelchair to cast his vote, demonstrating the inclusive spirit of the election. Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari, JP Nadda, Arjun Ram Meghwal, and Pralhad Joshi were also present, with Gadkari exchanging cordial greetings with Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge upon arrival.

The contest sees NDA nominee C.P. Radhakrishnan facing Opposition INDIA bloc candidate B. Sudershan Reddy. Several Union Ministers publicly expressed confidence in Radhakrishnan’s victory. Shivraj Singh Chouhan stated, “NDA’s victory is certain. C.P. Radhakrishnan will be the new Vice President.” Similarly, Jitan Ram Manjhi told reporters, “NDA candidate C.P. Radhakrishnan will surely win the Vice-President elections.”

Backing the NDA candidate, Union Minister Suresh Gopi emphasized the values of fairness and effectiveness, saying, “This election is not about choosing between anyone. It is aimed at selecting fairness, truthfulness, and effectiveness, which are most needed for the citizens of the country, whether they live inside or outside the country. As a person, I found C.P. Radhakrishnan to be the best worker or one of the best among thousands of workers in my ideological system.”

With the NDA holding a clear majority in Parliament, it is projected that 424 MPs will vote in favor of Radhakrishnan, comfortably surpassing the majority mark of 391.
