In a scathing critique of the BJP government’s recent decision to slash LPG prices by Rs. 100, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) National Spokesperson Clyde Crasto has denounced the move as a calculated political stunt rather than a genuine gesture of empowerment for women.

Crasto’s remarks come in the wake of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement of the price reduction on Friday, coinciding with International Women’s Day. However, rather than viewing it as a meaningful Women’s Day gift, Crasto sees it as a thinly veiled tactic to kickstart the BJP’s Lok Sabha Elections 2024 campaign.

“Reduction of Rs. 100 on LPG by BJP government is not a Women’s Day gift to women of India. It is a soft launch of the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 campaign by BJP,” Crasto asserted, highlighting the party’s pattern of reducing prices of essential commodities prior to elections, only to hike them afterward.

Prime Minister Modi justified the price reduction as a means to alleviate the financial burdens of millions of households, particularly benefiting women, whom he referred to as “Nari Shakti.”

However, Crasto’s critique challenges the sincerity of the gesture, emphasizing the broader political context in which such announcements are made. He argues that the timing of the reduction, just ahead of the elections, raises suspicions about the government’s motives, casting doubt on its commitment to addressing the genuine needs of women and households.

As the nation grapples with economic challenges and political uncertainty, Crasto’s remarks underscore the need for a critical examination of government policies and actions, particularly those purportedly aimed at women’s empowerment. In the run-up to the Lok Sabha Elections 2024, such debates are likely to intensify, with political parties vying for public support amidst competing narratives of progress and development.
