New Delhi: Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction) spokesperson Clyde Crasto launched a scathing attack on the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for approving a $1 billion loan to Pakistan, alleging that the move indirectly supports terrorism.

Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Crasto stated, “IMF approving $1 Billion loan for Pakistan is like an approval for terrorism. IMF is rubbing salt on India’s wounds whose citizens were killed by Pakistan-sponsored terrorists. Pakistan will use this money to create more destruction through their acts of terrorism. Shame on IMF.”

Crasto’s comments come amid ongoing tensions in the region and heightened security concerns following recent cross-border incidents. His tweet reflects growing apprehension in certain political circles about the misuse of international funds by Pakistan.

The NCP (SP) leader’s remark has sparked debate online, with supporters echoing his sentiments and critics accusing him of politicising global financial decisions.

While the IMF has stated that the loan is intended to stabilise Pakistan’s economy and support structural reforms, Crasto’s statement raises questions over accountability mechanisms and how such funds are utilised by recipient nations.

As of now, the central government has not officially commented on Crasto’s tweet, but the post underscores the political sensitivity surrounding global financial aid to Pakistan in light of its history with state-sponsored terrorism.

The IMF’s approval of the loan is part of a broader Extended Fund Facility aimed at averting economic collapse in Pakistan, but critics argue that without stringent oversight, such funding could have unintended geopolitical consequences.

Crasto’s strong words reflect a wider narrative in India demanding stricter scrutiny of international financial support to countries accused of harboring or supporting terrorism.
