NCC Cadets Lead ‘Clean Kupwara, Green Kupwara’ Awareness March

Kupwara: An awareness march under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was successfully organised by 7 J&K Battalion NCC Kupwara under the aegis of 28 Infantry Division Kupwara, aimed at promoting environmental awareness and sustainable practices among the local population.

The march commenced from the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Kupwara, and culminated at Parcham-e-Hind, Zangli. It was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Shri S. S. Bala, who appreciated the efforts of the NCC cadets and organisers in fostering civic responsibility and environmental stewardship.

A total of 80 NCC cadets representing various educational institutions across the district participated with great enthusiasm. The rally focused on spreading awareness about maintaining cleanliness, reducing plastic usage, and preserving natural resources, particularly river bodies.

During the march, cadets actively engaged with the public by distributing pamphlets and paper bags to shopkeepers and residents along the route. They also displayed placards and banners highlighting the hazards of plastic, the importance of waste management, and environmental protection. As part of the initiative, the cadets undertook a hands-on cleanliness drive, cleaning nearby areas while wearing protective gloves.

At Parcham-e-Hind, a plantation drive and a pledge ceremony were conducted, reinforcing a collective commitment to environmental conservation.

The event was graced by Brigadier D. Shaktawat, Deputy GOC, 28 Infantry Division, along with Colonel Amit Bhardwaj, Commanding Officer of 7 J&K Battalion NCC Kupwara. The dignitaries lauded the cadets for their dedication and emphasised the importance of collective action in achieving the vision of a clean and green India.

On the occasion, achiever cadets of 7 J&K Battalion NCC were felicitated. Notably, SUO Tawheed Altaf from Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Handwara, commanded the All India NCC Boys Marching Contingent at Kartavya Path during the Republic Day Parade on January 26, 2026, bringing immense pride to the Kashmir region. SUO Sheeraz from Government Degree College Kupwara and Cadet Mohammad Sohaib from Government Higher Secondary School Bandipora also represented the region at the prestigious Republic Day Camp.

The initiative reflects the continued commitment of the NCC and the Indian Army towards nation-building and community development, while inspiring citizens to contribute actively to a cleaner and greener environment.
