“China Agreed Not to Send Weapons”: Trump Signals Breakthrough in Iran Conflict

United States President Donald Trump on Wednesday said Chinese President Xi Jinping has denied supplying weapons to Iran, amid rising tensions in the region. Speaking in an interview with Fox News, Trump revealed that the denial came through a written response from Xi after he raised concerns over reports of China allegedly aiding Iran militarily.

“I wrote him a letter asking him not to do that. And he wrote me a letter saying that, essentially, he’s not doing that,” Trump said, adding that he is scheduled to meet Xi in Beijing in early May.

Trump Signals ‘Opening’ of Strait of Hormuz

In a separate social media post, Trump claimed he is “permanently opening the Strait of Hormuz,” suggesting that the move has been welcomed by China. He also indicated that Beijing has agreed not to supply arms to Iran, hinting at a possible linkage between maritime access and diplomatic assurances.

China Reiterates Denial

China’s Foreign Ministry has repeatedly denied allegations of providing military support to Iran, maintaining that it is not involved in the ongoing conflict. Beijing has consistently called for restraint and dialogue to resolve tensions.

Ceasefire Talks Gain Momentum

Amid escalating geopolitical strain, mediators are working to extend the fragile ceasefire between the United States and Iran, which is set to expire soon. According to regional officials, both sides have given an “in principle agreement” to prolong the truce to allow further diplomatic negotiations.

World leaders, including António Guterres, have indicated that renewed talks are likely in the coming days.

Iran Issues Strong Warning Over Blockade

Tensions remain high as a senior Iranian military official warned of severe consequences if the US does not lift its naval blockade. Ali Abdollahi stated that Iran could block trade routes across the Persian Gulf, the Sea of Oman, and the Red Sea.

“Iran will act with strength to defend its national sovereignty and its interests,” Abdollahi said, describing the blockade as a potential violation of the ceasefire.

Key Issues Stall Peace Efforts

Negotiations remain complex, with major sticking points including Iran’s nuclear program, control over the Strait of Hormuz, and compensation for wartime damages. Mediators are pushing for a breakthrough before the ceasefire deadline.
