Mumbai: Nagpur witnessed violent clashes on Monday after rumors spread that a right-wing group had burned a religious book, sparking tensions in the city. Addressing the Maharashtra Assembly on Tuesday, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis called the riots a “pre-planned conspiracy,” emphasizing that specific houses and establishments were deliberately targeted.

Fadnavis also attributed the growing public resentment against Aurangzeb to the recently released film Chhaava, starring Vicky Kaushal. The film, a biopic on Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, has reportedly fueled anger against the 17th-century Mughal emperor. “The Chhaava movie has ignited people’s anger against Aurangzeb. Still, everyone must keep Maharashtra peaceful,” Fadnavis urged during his speech in the legislative assembly.

The violent unrest in Nagpur resulted in multiple injuries, including at least 15 police personnel, with one officer in critical condition. Several vehicles were vandalized, and curfew-like restrictions have been imposed in the affected areas to restore order. The Maharashtra government has vowed strict action against those responsible for the riots.
