Muntazir Sarnoubat Crowned Mumbai Mayor Kesari Champion

Mumbai: Dharashiv’s Muntazir Sarnoubat emerged as the champion of the 32nd Mumbai Mayor Kesari Wrestling Tournament organised by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and the Mumbai Shahar Talim Sanghatana.

Muntazir defeated Imran Mujawar in the final to clinch the prestigious title and was awarded a cash prize of ₹1 lakh.

Ahead of the tournament, Muntazir’s coach and Shiv Chhatrapati Award winner Namdev Badre of Lal Bahadur Shastri School, Matunga, had expressed confidence that his trainee would win the title. Muntazir lived up to his coach’s expectations with a dominant display in the final.

The much-anticipated title clash between Muntazir and Imran was expected to be closely contested, with both wrestlers starting aggressively. However, Muntazir — the gold medallist in the 74 kg category at this year’s National Championship — seized an early opportunity and finished the bout within one-and-a-half minutes.

In the Junior Kesari final, Harshvardhan Jadhav of Kolhapur defeated Jay Bhoir of Thane by 10-4 to claim the title.

In other finals, Jaideep Badre defeated Lucky Kharat in the 62 kg category, while Yash Dhakne overcame Prakash Mali in the 72 kg category.

The winners were felicitated by Mumbai City Talim Sanghatana President Sanjay Shete, Vice President Vitthal Bhosale, Shashikant Deshmukh, Secretary Prakash Tanwade and other dignitaries.
