Mumbai: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Alert for Mumbai, warning of extremely heavy rainfall until 8:30 AM on May 27, 2025. The alert follows continuous downpours that have battered the city, causing severe waterlogging and bringing normal life to a halt.
The Red Alert signifies exceptionally heavy rainfall with a high potential for disruption. Citizens have been urged to stay indoors, avoid unnecessary travel, and follow safety instructions issued by local authorities.
Since early Monday morning, Mumbai has been lashed by relentless rain, submerging key areas such as Andheri, Dadar, Byculla, Churchgate, and the broader Mumbai Suburban region. The inundation has led to significant traffic snarls and interruptions in local train services, affecting daily commuters and emergency services alike.
Among the worst-hit facilities is KEM Hospital, where rainwater entered the ground floor, severely impacting services in critical areas like the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). Medical operations have been disrupted as hospital staff struggle to manage the flood-like situation.
