Delhi: The Congress has mounted a fierce counterattack over the National Herald case, with party president Mallikarjun Kharge launching a direct political offensive against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Accusing the BJP-led government of misusing investigative agencies, Kharge claimed the case was driven purely by political vendetta and aimed at harassing the Gandhi family.
Speaking to the media, Kharge said the ruling establishment must be held accountable for what he described as an abuse of power. “I want to say that Modi ji and Shah should resign. They should know that people will not sit quietly on such things,” the Congress chief asserted, signalling that the party is prepared to escalate its protest both inside and outside Parliament.
Kharge categorically rejected the allegations linked to the National Herald case, stressing that there is no criminal basis to the matter. “They are doing this only for political vendetta. This case exists only to trouble the Gandhi family. There is no FIR in this case,” he said, questioning the intent behind repeated legal actions.
The Congress president also framed the issue as a larger battle for democratic values and institutional integrity. Reiterating the party’s ideological stand, Kharge said, “Our slogan is ‘Satyamev Jayate’. We welcome the judgment in the case,” adding that truth would ultimately prevail despite pressure from the ruling dispensation.
The remarks come amid heightened political tensions, with the Congress accusing the BJP of systematically targeting opposition leaders through central agencies to silence dissent. The BJP, however, has consistently denied the charge, maintaining that the law is taking its own course.
