New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday welcomed Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to India, emphasizing the long-standing and mutually beneficial ties between the two nations. The leaders held extensive bilateral talks and later addressed a joint press conference in the capital.

Strengthening Ties Across Sectors

During the joint briefing, PM Modi highlighted the breadth of collaboration between India and Brazil, noting that the discussions covered multiple sectors of mutual interest. “In the discussions we had today, we spoke about our shared purpose and experience in every sector,” Modi said, underlining the countries’ commitment to deepen cooperation and advance a shared vision for the future.

President Lula echoed Modi’s sentiments, describing the meeting as “a meeting of superlatives.” He pointed out that India and Brazil are not only the largest democracies in the Global South but also leaders in critical global domains. “This is a meeting of a digital superpower with a renewable energy superpower,” Lula remarked, emphasizing the complementary strengths of the two nations.

Business Delegation to Explore New Opportunities

The Brazilian president arrived in India with a large delegation, including CEOs from major Brazilian companies. The delegation is expected to participate in a Business Forum designed to identify new avenues for investment and strategic partnerships. This initiative reflects the growing economic engagement between the two countries and their intent to expand trade and technological collaboration.

Building on Historical Engagement

Lula’s visit follows PM Modi’s historic trip to Brazil in July 2025—the first by an Indian prime minister in over 50 years. That visit laid the groundwork for an enhanced bilateral agenda, and Saturday’s meeting signals a renewed commitment to elevating India-Brazil relations on multiple fronts, from technology and trade to renewable energy and sustainable development.

Looking Ahead

Both leaders emphasized their countries’ shared commitment to global cooperation and innovation, setting the stage for deeper ties in diplomacy, economy, and sustainable development. Analysts view the India-Brazil partnership as increasingly strategic, leveraging each country’s unique strengths to address challenges and seize opportunities in the global arena.
