Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday assured that the Indian government is taking every possible step to ensure the safety of Indian citizens living in Gulf countries amid the ongoing tensions in West Asia. Addressing a large public rally in Ernakulam, the Prime Minister said India has always used its full strength to protect its citizens wherever they are in the world.
“New India Will Never Abandon Its People”
Speaking about the large Indian diaspora working in the Gulf region, Modi said it is natural for families in India to feel worried about the current conflict. Millions of Indians are employed across Gulf nations, making the region extremely important for India.
The Prime Minister said that under the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance government, protecting Indian citizens abroad remains a top priority.
He said whenever Indians have faced trouble anywhere in the world, the government has taken strong action to ensure their safety. According to Modi, the “New India” stands firmly with its citizens and never abandons them during crises.
Gulf Countries Supporting Indian Citizens
Modi also expressed gratitude to friendly Gulf nations for helping ensure the safety of Indian nationals during the ongoing crisis. He said governments in the region are cooperating with India and assisting Indians who may need help.
The Prime Minister added that Indian embassies and diplomatic missions in the region are working continuously to support citizens.
According to him, Indian missions are operating round the clock and providing assistance such as food, accommodation and protection to those who require help.
Modi Criticises Congress Over Statements
During his address, Modi also targeted the Indian National Congress for what he described as irresponsible statements regarding the government’s handling of the West Asia situation.
He accused the opposition party of attempting to politicise a serious international crisis. Modi said such comments could create confusion and unnecessary disruption during a sensitive global situation.
Appeal for Political Change in Kerala
Apart from discussing foreign policy and the Gulf crisis, the Prime Minister also made a strong political appeal to voters in Kerala.
He urged people in the state to move away from the long-standing political cycle dominated by the United Democratic Front and the Left Democratic Front.
Modi said both the Congress-led UDF and the Left-led LDF have ruled the state for decades and asked voters to give the BJP-led alliance an opportunity to govern.
Appealing for support, he said that if given a chance, the BJP and its allies would work towards building what he described as a “Viksit Kerala” aligned with the vision of a developed India.
