Amritsar: A major political storm has erupted in Punjab over the alleged hooch tragedy in Amritsar’s Majitha area, with Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia accusing the state government of a cover-up and demanding urgent action.

Majithia, addressing the media on Tuesday, claimed that the incident has already taken a serious toll, stating, “16 people have been affected out of which 4-5 people are in critical condition.” He further alleged that the tragedy was deliberately concealed by authorities. “This incident was kept hidden yesterday. I got the information regarding this case yesterday. The people died yesterday, their last rites were performed, and no post-mortem was done,” he revealed.

Lashing out at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Punjab government, Majithia questioned Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s commitment to eradicating drug and illicit liquor mafias in the state. “I want to ask the CM what happened to his campaign against drug abuse,” he said.

Calling the incident a part of a “bigger conspiracy”, Majithia demanded swift and transparent action. “There is a bigger conspiracy behind this… We demand employment, compensation and legal action in this matter… This conspiracy is on a bigger level,” he asserted.
