In a significant anti-terror breakthrough, security forces busted a terrorist hideout deep in the Sedori Nala forest area of Mushtaqabad Machil (Samsha Behak region) in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, recovering a large cache of arms and ammunition believed to be part of a larger plot to destabilise peace in the Valley.

Acting swiftly on intelligence inputs, a joint team from the Special Operations Group (SOG) Camp Machil and the Indian Army’s 12 SIKHLI battalion launched a coordinated operation under the jurisdiction of Police Station Kupwara and Police Post Machil. The search led to the discovery of a concealed hideout believed to be used by militants to stock weapons.

The cache recovered includes:

  • 5 AK-47 rifles
  • 8 AK-47 magazines
  • 1 pistol and 1 pistol magazine
  • 660 AK-47 rounds
  • 1 pistol round
  • 50 rounds of M4 ammunition

Security officials confirmed that the arms haul has foiled possible terror plans aimed at targeting civilian areas and security installations. “The timely action has certainly averted a potential threat to lives and public order,” said a senior police officer involved in the operation.

Officials added that the operation reflects the high level of coordination and alertness among the security forces operating in the region. The seized weapons have been taken into custody and further investigation is underway to trace the origins and intended use of the consignment.
