Mumbai: India’s largest Data Center building, Yotta NM1, the largest Tier IV Data Center, certified by Uptime Institute in Asia, and the second largest in the world was inaugurated in the virtual presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister, Uddhav Thackeray, Union Minister for Communications, Electronics & Information Technology and Law & Justice, Ravi Shankar Prasad and Maharashtra Industries minister Subhash Desai.
The inauguration of the data centre also comes at a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given a call for ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ and has emphasized on India as a data economy on several instances.
CM Thackeray while e-inaugurating the data centre said it will certainly benefit the state of Maharashtra. “We should prosper in the sector of information technology. The state government will encourage more data centers to come up”, Thackeray said.
The Data Centre is spread across 8.2 lakh square feet area in Panvel in Raigad district.
Thackeray said, the government has decided to prioritize data centers in the state’s economy. “Maharashtra will be on world stage due to this state of the art data centre”, he added.

Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said, before the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government came to power in 2014, there were only two mobile companies, now there are 260 mobile companies in the country.
“Artificial intelligence, mobile economy, data management, etc. will have lot of importance in days to come”, Prasad said.
Dr Niranjan Hiranandani, Managing Director and Co-founder of Hiranandani Group, said, they would be looking at multiple operators to come into the position within the data centre. “We have given offer to multiple players in the market to join in. The operations have started today”, he said. He also said that the data centre business should grow by 25-30 per cent in the current year.
Hailing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for Aatmanirbhar Bharat, Hiranandani said that the Prime Minister is very clear about data privacy and his clarion call for Aatmanirbhar Bharat. “Data should be localized in India. Why should India’s data be located overseas?”, he asked.
He added that Data Centre is a leapfrog step in technological advancement for building a digital India dream of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
