Sharad Pawar Praises His Governance at the 98th All India Marathi Literary Conference
New Delhi: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has been recognized for his decisive leadership and unwavering commitment to the state’s progress. Speaking at the 98th All India Marathi Literary Conference in New Delhi, veteran leader Sharad Pawar lauded Shinde’s governance, commending his ability to work across party lines for Maharashtra’s development.
“Thane, Navi Mumbai, and Mumbai require strong and consistent leadership to navigate their political landscape effectively. Leaders like former municipal presidents Savlaram Patil and Rangnekar played key roles, and Eknath Shinde has significantly contributed as well,” Pawar stated. He also recalled an interesting anecdote about how poet Savlaram Patil, originally from Satara, rose to become the Mayor of Thane.
On this occasion, Eknath Shinde was conferred with the Mahadji Shinde Rashtriya Gaurav Award by Sarhad, an organization dedicated to preserving historical and cultural legacies. Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia also praised Shinde’s political journey and his contributions to Maharashtra.
Accepting the award, Eknath Shinde expressed gratitude, acknowledging the legacy of Mahadji Shinde and the responsibility that comes with the honour.
“This award is not just a recognition; it is a reminder of the duty I carry. Receiving it from a stalwart like Pawar Saheb makes it even more special. Mahadji Shinde’s valour altered the course of Indian history, delaying British rule by 50 years. If not for him, their reign could have lasted 200 years instead of 150. The British themselves recognized him as ‘The Great Maratha.’ For me, this award is akin to the golden chain of honour bestowed upon warriors in history,” Shinde remarked.
Adding a touch of humour, Shinde acknowledged Pawar’s sharp political acumen, quipping:
“Pawar Saheb’s political ‘googly’ is legendary, but since we share a good rapport, I trust he won’t bowl one at me.”
A Commitment to Preserving History
Dedicating the award to his party workers and the people of Maharashtra, Shinde credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for their unwavering support, which has enabled his government to achieve key milestones in just two and a half years.
Looking ahead, Shinde announced plans to incorporate Mahadji Shinde’s achievements into school curricula and explore the establishment of a national memorial in Kanherkhed, the birthplace of the great Maratha warrior.
