Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to thoroughly probe the shocking case of a woman doctor’s alleged suicide in Satara district. The move follows mounting public outrage and calls for justice from various quarters.

According to officials, the woman, a native of Beed district, was found dead in a hotel room in Phaltan on October 23. Investigators recovered a message written on her palm in which she accused Sub-Inspector Gopal Badane of repeatedly raping her and software engineer Prashant Bankar of subjecting her to severe mental harassment. Both accused have since been taken into custody.

Fadnavis, who also serves as the State Home Minister, instructed the Director General of Police (DGP) to immediately form the SIT, to be headed by a senior woman IPS officer, ensuring a fair and sensitive investigation. “No one involved in this heinous act will be spared,” an official quoted Fadnavis as saying.

The Chief Minister’s decision comes amid growing protests and demands for accountability from citizens and opposition leaders. The deceased doctor’s family had been vocally demanding that the case be handled by an independent team, expressing concerns about possible local interference.
