Prayagraj: In a spectacular display of faith and devotion, 13.8 million devotees took a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj by 10:30 AM on Tuesday, marking the first ‘Amrit Snan’ of the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025. The auspicious occasion coincided with the celebration of Makar Sankranti, one of the most significant festivals in India.

The ‘Amrit Snan’ is a ritual that draws millions of pilgrims from across the world to bathe in the confluence of the Ganges, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati River, believed to cleanse them of sins and bestow spiritual merit.

According to officials, a special event was planned between 10:30 and 11:00 AM today, when a helicopter from Prayagraj Airport will shower flowers over all the Akharas participating in the ritual. This gesture adds to the grandeur of the ceremony, symbolizing blessings for the saints and devotees gathered at the sacred site.

On the first day of the Maha Kumbh, more than 1.5 crore pilgrims are expected to visit the Sangam, continuing the tradition of this unparalleled spiritual gathering, which is considered the largest of its kind in the world.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath extended his heartfelt congratulations to all the devotees who took part in the first ‘Amrit Snan’ and described the event as a testament to India’s enduring cultural and spiritual heritage. On social media platform X, he shared his well-wishes, saying, “This is the living form of our eternal culture and faith. Today, on the auspicious occasion of the great festival of folk faith ‘Makar Sankranti,’ congratulations to all the devotees who earned virtue by taking the first ‘Amrit Snan’ at the Triveni Sangam in Mahakumbh-2025, Prayagraj!”

The event also saw the participation of the 13 Akharas of Sanatan Dharma, with numerous sadhus taking the sacred dip at the Triveni Sangam, further enhancing the religious significance of the occasion.
