Latest Update: 7 Students Dead, Dozens Injured After School Building Collapses in Rajasthan’s Jhalawar

Jhalawar: A tragic incident unfolded in the early hours of Friday morning when a section of a government school building suddenly collapsed in Rajasthan’s Manoharthana block of Jhalawar district, killing at least seven students and injuring more than 30 others.

Students Crushed as Assembly Begins

The collapse occurred at the Piplod Government School just as students had gathered for their morning assembly. Without warning, a section of the roof caved in, burying several students under the debris. According to school officials, over 35 children were present inside the affected section at the time of the collapse.

Rising Death Toll and Critical Injuries

Initially, authorities reported four deaths, but the toll later rose to seven as rescue teams pulled more students from the rubble. Ten of the injured children were shifted to Jhalawar Medical College, where at least three remain in critical condition under intensive care.

Locals Launch First Rescue

Before official help could arrive, villagers and school staff rushed in to pull students from the debris using their bare hands. Witnesses described scenes of panic and chaos as injured children screamed for help and shocked teachers tried to regain control.

Emergency Response and Hospital Visits

Emergency services reached the school within an hour and launched a full-scale rescue operation. Kota Divisional Commissioner Rajendra Singh Shekhawat visited the hospital to meet the injured and speak with their families.

State and Central Government Condolences

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma has ordered an inquiry and assured the best possible treatment for the injured. Political leaders across party lines, including Congress and BJP, expressed grief and extended solidarity with the victims’ families.

Meanwhile, the central leadership, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Droupadi Murmu, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, expressed condolences through social media, acknowledging the loss of innocent young lives.

Probe Ordered, Safety Questions Raised

The district administration has begun a preliminary probe into the incident. Structural safety of the school building—constructed nearly two decades ago—is now under scrutiny. Locals allege that despite repeated complaints about cracks and water leakage, no repairs had been made in recent years.

Classes Suspended Until Further Notice

All classes at the school have been suspended indefinitely, and a grief counseling team has been deployed to support affected students and their families.
