A sessions court in Kolhapur has remanded former journalist Prashant Koratkar to 14-day judicial custody in a case related to alleged derogatory remarks against Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and his son Chhatrapati Sambhaji. Koratkar, a resident of Nagpur, was arrested on March 24 and was produced before the court via video conferencing on Sunday.
Judicial Custody and Security Measures
As the police did not seek further custody, the court ordered that Koratkar be lodged in Kolhapur’s Kalamba jail, where he will be kept in a separate cell for security reasons.
Authorities opted for video conferencing due to security concerns, as attempts were made to heckle him when he was being escorted from the court complex on March 24. Additionally, a lawyer verbally abused him on March 28, though no physical assault occurred, police confirmed.
