Amid the political storm surrounding investigations involving Trinamool Congress leaders, senior TMC MP Kirti Azad launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party, alleging that investigative agencies are repeatedly being used to target opposition figures.
His remarks came as attention remained focused on the CID’s actions linked to Abhishek Banerjee’s residence and the Enforcement Directorate’s searches at locations associated with TMC MLA Madan Mitra.
“This Is Not Breaking News Anymore”
Reacting to the developments, Azad suggested that such actions had become a familiar political pattern.
“It isn’t exactly breaking news that CID is at Abhishek Banerjee’s residence and ED at Madan Mitra’s place. Political parties are targeted this way,” he said.
The TMC leader argued that opposition parties across the country have frequently faced scrutiny from investigative agencies whenever political tensions rise.
Questions Conviction Record
Azad also questioned the effectiveness of the investigations, claiming that despite numerous raids and inquiries, convictions have remained minimal.
“They haven’t secured even a 1% conviction rate so far. This is the BJP’s old modus operandi,” he alleged.
The remarks are likely to add to the ongoing political confrontation between the ruling party at the Centre and opposition groups ahead of upcoming electoral contests.
“They Aren’t Interested in Running the Government”
Taking his criticism a step further, Azad accused the BJP of prioritizing political battles over governance.
“They aren’t interested in actually running the government. They will just keep doing these things,” he said.
According to the TMC MP, the focus on investigations often overshadows issues that directly affect ordinary citizens.
Raises Inflation and Unemployment Concerns
Azad claimed that economic challenges facing the country are not receiving sufficient attention amid the political controversies.
“No one will talk about inflation or unemployment. Petrol and diesel prices are skyrocketing,” he said.
The TMC leader argued that public debate should be centred on employment generation, rising living costs and economic relief measures rather than political investigations.
