Bengaluru: The Karnataka State Private Transport Association has formally raised concerns over Rapido resuming its bike taxi services without obtaining court or government clearance, calling the move a potential contempt of court.
In a representation to Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy, the association highlighted that the High Court had ordered the state government to decide on the legality of bike taxi operations within 30 days. However, with no official approval granted, Rapido and other operators reportedly restarted their services, sparking outrage among traditional taxi and auto-rickshaw drivers.
The association claimed that these unauthorised operations undermine legal processes and create unfair competition for licensed operators who comply with transport regulations. They urged the transport ministry to take immediate action to halt services until proper legal clearance is obtained, stressing the importance of maintaining a level playing field in Karnataka’s urban transport sector.
