Heavy monsoon rain accompanied by strong winds disrupted normal life across Delhi-NCR on Monday, with Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram and Faridabad witnessing intense showers.
The downpour affected road traffic and flight operations, while several areas reported waterlogging. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast more rainfall in Delhi-NCR and other parts of the country.
The weather department has also issued an orange alert for Gurugram and Faridabad, warning of heavy rainfall in the two districts.
12 Flights Diverted From Delhi Airport
The worsening weather conditions affected operations at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi. At least 12 flights were diverted to Jaipur International Airport because of the weather.
The diverted flights included services operated by IndiGo, Air India, Air India Express and SpiceJet.
Passengers travelling through Delhi airport were advised to check their flight status with their respective airlines before leaving for the airport.
Heavy Rain Causes Traffic Chaos
The rainfall also resulted in major traffic problems across parts of Delhi.
Heavy congestion was reported on MB Road near Sangam Vihar, particularly between Vayusenabad and Sangam Vihar. Commuters reported spending close to an hour in traffic as water and rain slowed movement.
The disruption affected people travelling towards the airport, Saket Court and nearby workplaces.
Several commuters said that the stretch frequently becomes difficult to navigate during heavy rainfall.
Noida Sees Intense Showers
Noida also witnessed heavy rain, with several areas receiving intense showers.
Visuals from Sectors 16, 39 and 95 showed roads and surrounding areas being hit by continuous rainfall. While the showers brought some relief from the heat and humidity, they also raised concerns over traffic movement and water accumulation.
Ghaziabad Reports Waterlogging
Heavy waterlogging was reported near the Industrial Area underpass on NH-9 in Ghaziabad.
Vehicles struggled to move through the accumulated water, with some cars and two-wheelers becoming stranded. Several motorists reportedly stopped along the roadside while waiting for conditions to improve.
The waterlogging slowed traffic and caused inconvenience to people travelling to work and other destinations.
More Rain Expected In Several States
The IMD has warned of continued monsoon activity in Delhi-NCR and neighbouring regions.
Heavy rainfall is also likely in parts of Uttarakhand, Odisha and Telangana. With more showers expected, authorities and commuters have been advised to remain alert, particularly in areas vulnerable to waterlogging and traffic disruption.
The latest spell of rain has provided relief from high temperatures and humidity, but continued heavy showers could create further problems for road and air travel across the NCR.
