Pune: “The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is not only the epitome of corruption but I sincerely doubt the credentials of the civil engineers on their pay roll” remarked Siddharth Bhowmik, who lives on Road No 9-A at Kalyani Nagar. His neighbor, Capt. Robin Azavedo is just as equally agitated.
The Storm-Water drain at Road No 9 A was built in January 2023. It was damaged within about 15 months of its construction. Siddharth Bhowmik, Capt. Robin Azavedo and other residents had lodged several complaints with the top brass of the PMC but to no avail. After a lot of follow-ups, a very poor, shoddy and extremely sub-standard, slap-dash repair work was done on August 26.
Complaints of this sloppy work was made to Runali Gardi, who diverted the issue to Hemant Kumar Desai and from there on, in a game of musical chairs, the grievances were placed before Sidaram Patil, Site Engineer and it has been lying with him ever since.
“I have had to use this road as my parents are senior citizens and need regular medical assistance for which I have to use my vehicle. Due to this delay and ignorance of the PMC’s office bearers, including its commissioner, my vehicle has got damaged”. Siddharth says.
This also high-lights the gross incompetence of the persons employed in the PMC. Siddharth wonders if they are indeed qualified engineers. Or, they might have been recruited on the basis of forged certificates and documents (coupled with grease money!), as in the case of an IAS officer who was severely censured recently.
Siddharth has yet again lodged a complaint with Rajendra Bhosale, Commissioner of the PMC on September 7. Predictably, there has been no response or even an acknowledgment. Meanwhile, the taxpayers money is being squandered, with even the local corporator taking an ostrich-like stance since “in all probability he may be in tacit connivance with these plunderers!”
