Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Tuesday, extending a formal invitation for the swearing-in ceremony of his government. The event is set to take place at Morabadi Ground, Ranchi, on November 28 at 4 p.m.
Hemant Soren was joined by his wife, Kalpana Soren, the newly elected MLA from the Gandey constituency. Prime Minister Modi congratulated both on their electoral success and shared photos of the meeting on X (formerly Twitter). Alongside the Chief Minister, other ministers are also expected to take their oaths during the ceremony.
Hemant Soren was unanimously chosen as the leader of the INDIA bloc in Jharkhand on Sunday. A Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) spokesperson revealed that invitations for the ceremony have been sent to prominent political leaders, including RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, Bihar’s Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, AAP Convener Arvind Kejriwal, CPI-ML leader Dipankar Bhattacharya, and the Chief Ministers of Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Punjab, Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh, Telangana, and Jammu and Kashmir.
The JMM-Congress-RJD alliance secured a landslide victory in the Jharkhand Assembly elections, winning 56 out of 81 seats. The JMM claimed 34 seats, Congress 16, RJD 4, and CPI-ML 2. This marks the first time in the state’s history that a government has achieved a two-thirds majority.
Hemant Soren is set to make history as the first leader to serve as Jharkhand’s Chief Minister for the fourth time. He initially took the oath on July 13, 2013, heading a Congress-RJD-backed government until December 2014.
