A fresh aviation controversy has erupted after Jay Pawar, son of former Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, publicly shared a video that he claims raises alarming questions about passenger safety. The footage, which has now gone viral on social media, allegedly shows VSR Ventures owner Rohit Singh asleep in the pilot’s seat during a flight.
Jay Pawar expressed grief and anger while posting the clip, calling the visuals “deeply disturbing” and accusing the company of gross negligence. He described the matter as one involving lives and demanded immediate intervention from aviation authorities.
Call for Immediate Regulatory Crackdown
In his statement, Jay Pawar urged the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to suspend all operations of VSR Ventures Pvt Ltd pending a thorough investigation. He further demanded strict legal action against the company’s leadership if the allegations are proven true.
Calling it a “desperate appeal for justice,” Pawar said that aviation safety cannot be compromised under any circumstances. He argued that any instance of carelessness in the cockpit is unacceptable and could put countless passengers at risk.
Background: Aircraft Already Grounded After Audit
The controversy comes shortly after the DGCA grounded four aircraft operated by VSR Ventures following a special safety audit. The regulator initiated the audit after a fatal crash involving a Learjet 45 in Baramati earlier this year. The January 28 crash led to heightened scrutiny of the operator’s maintenance and compliance practices.
According to officials familiar with the review, the audit began in early February and concluded mid-month. Inspectors reportedly identified procedural gaps and compliance deficiencies, leading to the temporary suspension of multiple aircraft.
Company Profile and Operations
VSR Ventures operates as a non-scheduled air operator, providing private charter services across India. Such operators typically cater to corporate executives, political figures, high-net-worth individuals and emergency medical transport needs.
The company reportedly manages a fleet of around seven aircraft, including Learjets and other mid-sized business jets. In addition to charter flights, it offers air ambulance services and aviation consultancy.
