New Delhi: Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh has launched a blistering attack on the Modi-led central government, accusing it of resorting to a “momentary, hypocritical, and opportunistic” form of diplomacy with its decision to send all-party delegations abroad as part of the Centre’s Operation Sindoor outreach against global terrorism.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Ramesh accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of “11 years of abusing and defaming the Opposition” and claimed that “the BJP’s poisonous politics at home has damaged India’s credibility abroad.”

“After 11 years of abusing and defaming the Opposition — especially the Congress — the PM is now forced to send all-party delegations overseas. The truth is that the BJP’s poisonous politics at home has cost us hugely abroad. Our sanctimonious diplomacy has fallen flat, and India is back to being hyphenated with Pakistan,” Ramesh wrote.

He further mocked the Prime Minister’s global image, stating, “The self-styled Vishwaguru’s balloon — which was full of hot air — has been well and truly punctured. It is a reflection of his own inadequacies — now completely exposed — that the Prime Minister is turning towards bipartisanship.”

Ramesh also criticized the Centre’s selection process for the all-party delegation. Despite the Congress nominating four MPs — Anand Sharma, Gaurav Gogoi, Nasir Hussain, and Raja Brar — the government selected only Anand Sharma from the list. The remaining Congress representatives were chosen without party consultation and include Shashi Tharoor, Manish Tewari, Amar Singh, and Salman Khurshid.

Calling the move “mischievous,” Ramesh said: “Rahul Gandhi wrote a letter, and before 12 noon on May 16, we submitted four names. But the government had mischievous intentions from the beginning. They added four more names not on our list… We know that Operation Sindoor is being politicised… But the Congress party believes that national interest is paramount.”
