Mumbai: A political controversy has surfaced in Maharashtra after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced its choice for the post of Mumbai Mayor, triggering sharp criticism from Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction) leader Clyde Crasto.

Clyde Crasto, National Spokesperson and Secretary of NCP-SP, questioned the BJP’s decision to select a leader who was earlier associated with the Congress party. He said the move has deeply disappointed loyal BJP corporators who have worked for years to strengthen the party in Mumbai.

According to Crasto, several experienced BJP corporators in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation have invested their time, energy, and commitment to the party. He argued that overlooking such leaders sends a wrong message to grassroots workers who believe loyalty and dedication are core political values.

Crasto asked whether the BJP’s decision reflects a shift in priorities, where long-standing service is ignored in favour of political convenience. He said workers who stood by the BJP during challenging times may now feel sidelined and demoralised.

The NCP-SP leader further stated that such choices could create unrest within the BJP’s organisational structure in Mumbai. He warned that neglecting loyal workers may weaken internal unity, especially at a time when civic leadership is under close public scrutiny.
