Iran has issued a fresh warning to the United States, saying it will respond firmly if Washington fails to honour its commitments under the fragile ceasefire understanding reached after recent military tensions.
Speaking to Iranian state television, a Foreign Ministry spokesperson said, “Any US breach of commitments will be met with reciprocal action.” The statement came days after US President Donald Trump said the ceasefire with Tehran was effectively over, raising fresh concerns about the future of negotiations between the two countries.
Iran also rejected Trump’s claim that Tehran had sought renewed talks with Washington. The Foreign Ministry said Iran did not request negotiations with the United States and only agreed to receive a delegation from Qatar, which has been mediating between the two sides.
Senior Iranian leader Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said Iran would not surrender under pressure and warned that the country was prepared to defend itself if the United States violated the understanding reached between them. He added that Iran remained ready to protect what he described as the rights of the Iranian people.
Meanwhile, Ali Khomeini, grandson of the founder of the Islamic Republic, took a hardline stance, saying dialogue with the United States should not be seen as a path to reconciliation and insisting that Iran would continue resisting American pressure.
The latest exchange comes as Qatar continues mediation efforts aimed at preventing a renewed escalation between Tehran and Washington after weeks of heightened tensions across the Middle East.
