New Delhi: Responding to the international criticism on its 25-year-long comprehensive cooperation pact with China, Tehran has held that its deal with Beijing is a ‘turning point’ in their strategic relations.
Iran and China are presently holding talks on finalizing their 25-year cooperation roadmap. The statement from Tehran underscoring its new pact with Beijing is a direct hit on the statements issued by the US and EU – opposing the agreement.
The latest statement by Tehran was made by Ramezan Parvaz, Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Shanghai. Speaking to Chinese media Pravaz said that cooperation roadmap between the two nations can be a turning point in their strategic relations.
In a videoconference with the members of the Iranian Chamber of Commerce in East China on Sunday, the Iranian Consul General noted that the 25-year comprehensive roadmap between Iran and China will be negotiated and finalized according to the strategic needs of bilateral relations. Parvaz also described the opportunities for collaboration between and China and pointed to the measures adopted by Iran’s Embassy in Beijing and the Iranian Consulate in Shanghai regarding the problems of Iranian citizens residing in China.
Referring to the significance of Iran-China roadmap, Parvaz claimed that that the deal could be a turning point in the strategic relations between the two countries, and therefore ‘the enemies’ will not be pleased with such stable relations.
In a meeting on 21 June, Iran’s cabinet of ministers approved the final draft of the 25-year comprehensive cooperation plan between Iran and China. Following this, on 5 July the Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif announced about the Tehran – Beijing negotiations over a 25-year so-called ‘accord’, which as he put into words is “clear and the two countries have nothing to hide about it.”
