Indore: The Madhya Pradesh government has stepped up action following the worsening drinking water contamination crisis in Indore’s Bhagirathpura locality, where the number of deaths has climbed to 13, according to official sources. The fatalities include six women and a six-month-old infant, highlighting the severe human cost of the outbreak.

In response to the growing outrage, the Mohan Yadav-led state government has initiated disciplinary measures against officials of the municipal corporation. Two officers have been placed under suspension, while another has been removed from service, as accountability is being fixed for lapses linked to the contaminated water supply.

The incident triggered widespread illness in the area, with residents reporting acute symptoms after consuming polluted tap water. Health authorities have intensified monitoring and treatment efforts, while civic bodies are under scrutiny for alleged negligence in maintaining water infrastructure.
